Walking Into The Sea of Poppies

California’s “Super Bloom 2019” is huge, it is all over the news, and it is what people are constantly talking about recently. California had an unusual amount of rain in the first quarter of 2019, which was totally rare but has definitely contributed to a very colorful spring.

Walker Canyon Poppy Fields at Lake Elsinore is probably one of the most famous places for poppy viewing, since it was also our first time seeing the bloom, we decided to join the crowd. The hike was short and easy, and the bloom was indeed amazing - bold, wild, and free.

Some closeups. A disclosure here that we have only been on dirt paths, we didn’t step on any plant nor picked any flowers to bring home with us.

If you’ve been following our journeys you may have noticed that Matt is very rarely in the photos, he’s very much a behind the scenes type of guy. In most cases, even when offered, he would refuse the chance to be on the opposite side of the camera. But during our hike, Matt specifically asked to be in a photo with the poppies, and here is him being on both sides of the camera this time.

Some other attractive plant at the canyon.

Overall this was definitely a beautiful glance of spring, a fun hike, and a very lively afternoon at Walker Canyon. Yes, it was very crowded at some point, just like any other beautiful things in life, people have appreciation for them and this is a mutual feeling. However, it saddens us to see that many people left with a bunch of poppies in hand or even a vase. If everyone can just do their part to ensure the lasting of the beauty by not causing any damage to it, more people would be able to appreciate it.
