Tulum Food Tour

Just as any other popular destinations, good food always makes a place more attractive. And here at Tulum, we not only had some of the best tacos we’ve ever tried, but also experienced some exquisite cuisines that left a deep impression on our palates. Though it’s impossible to capture everything we had here, here are some highlights of our Tulum food tour.

Restaurants in tulum beach

Tseen-Ja by AZULIK

Starting our trip with Tseen-Ja by AZULIK, a restaurant we made a reservation for prior to departure. We have to admit that given our high expectations, the food was actually not up to our standards and was frankly a bit disappointing. But the reason we decide to feature it here is because the overall dining experience was still very much memorable and the view at this restaurant was simply spectacular. So if you’re looking for the best food in town, this isn’t your place. But if you’re looking for an iconic Tulum dining experience, this is worth trying.

Coco Tulum Beach Club

Since we booked our stay at Coco Tulum, there is no reason to not hangout at its famous beach club. We spent a pleasant half day here and had a casual lunch at the beach club with awesome drinks and incredible views, again food alone may not be the most impressive kind, the overall experience was relaxing and pleasant.

Matcha Mama

Needless to say, Match Mama is not only a smoothie and juice bar now, it is also a popular and trendy spot on social media. We ordered one of their Acai bowls for breakfast and it was a tasty yet healthy start of the day, however we did think it’s slightly on the pricier end.

Philosophy at Casa Malca

We originally booked this restaurant because we wanted to see the famous wedding dress drapes at this luxury hotel transformed from one of Pablo Escobar’s mansions. But what we didn’t expect was this restaurant turned out to be one of the best fine dining places we’ve ever been to, not just in Tulum. Stunning ocean view, top tier services, and more importantly, mind-blowing flavors - the prawns were the best we’ve ever had, period.

Juanita Diavola

This is another restaurant conveniently located onsite of our hotel, we’ve had both breakfast (included with our stay) and dinner here, and all meals were impressive and tasty.

Tulum Cervecería Artesanal

On the north side of Tulum Beach, we also thoroughly loved our dining experience at Tulum Cervecería Artesanal. Chances are you will see Tulum Beer in almost every restaurant you go here, and this famous local beer is brewed right onsite at this location. Restaurant has a modern and upscale dining environment, and food definitely did not disappoint either!

Restaurants in Tulum Town

DelCielo

If you’re looking for a great breakfast place in town, this will be the one! Great coffees and flavorful juice, tasty food and fresh local fruits, it was everything we have hoped for and beyond!

La Braceria Tulum

Don’t hesitate to check this place out if you are looking for a fine dining experience, they are known for their grilled steaks and seafood! Of course that’s what we are here for too, and the ribeye and prawns we ordered were equally amazing in taste. The cherry on top - they served some of the best cocktails we’ve had too!

Restaurante Estrada

On our search of more authentic food in town, we came across this restaurant and were glad to see most diners were locals when we went - a strong signal to us that we went into the right place. It was a simple one page menu so it didn’t take us long to decide what we wanted, and both presentation and flavor were very much on point!

Teetotum Hotel Restaurant Lounge

At times when we were not super hungry but just wanted to grab a quick bite, we also stopped by a few places and this was our favorite of them. We only ordered a shrimp taco to share but once we had that first bite, we definitely wished that we came at a more hungry time!

Like many other trips, we were super glad to have a taste of Tulum, but only wished that we were able to acquire more flavors - guess that’s another motivation for us to return!

Hotel of Our Stay (Tulum Beach): Coco Tulum Zen Zone Hotel

See this content in the original post

Secluded cabin sits right on the beach, a private pathway leads to our own patio with a hammock and beach chairs, literally a few steps away from the ocean - this is definitely not the most luxurious kind of hotel experience (facility wise), but a stay with immersive connections to nature and bold Tulum vibes.

Central location, easy parking, friendly staff, tasty breakfasts. Room is on the smaller side and lights aren’t very bright (especially at night), but very steady Wi-Fi and efficient A/C - overall a satisfied stay.

Hotel of Our Stay (Tulum Town): Zenses Wellness and Yoga Resort

With only 11 cabins onsite, the hotel is totally Zen in many aspects: modern and spacious room, super private and lush patio, unique looking hammocks, gorgeous breakfast and pool area, free morning Yoga classes, etc.

This hotel is about 6-minute walk to main street, convenient location, stunning interior and more than enough space, functional Wi-Fi and very easy parking. If you’re looking to spend some peaceful times, there’s really not much we could complain about this place.
